It is possible to link iDEAL and Bancontact to your Apple Account (Apple ID) to make purchases in the iTunes, iBooks and App Store. Think of apps, music, subscriptions, films, but you can also pay for your Apple Music subscription and your iCloud storage with iDEAL or Bancontact.
It is not the case that you make a transaction per purchase, you pay in advance by topping up your account with a certain amount. All purchases, including subscriptions, are deducted from this balance. Adding iDEAL and Bancontact is easy and most Dutch and Belgian banks are supported. A bitcoin wallet is unfortunately not supported.
Link iDEAL or Bancontact to your Apple Account
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad
- Navigate to your name
- Tap ‘Media & Purchases’
- Select ‘Show account’, log in with your Apple Account
- Tap ‘Manage payment methods’
- Select ‘Add payment method’
- Select iDEAL/Bancontact and follow the steps on the screen
Confirm the change by tapping ‘Done’ and then choose a default amount or fill in a personal one via the ‘Other’ option. Follow the steps to link the money to your Apple Account via a transaction.
From now on you can use this credit for all purchases in the Stores, but also for your Apple Music and iCloud subscription. You must ensure that you have sufficient balance to pay for the subscription.
Add money to your Apple ID via iDEAL or Bancontact
- Open the App Store
- Tap your profile picture or silhouette at the top
- Tap on your name
- Select ‘Add money to your account’
- Follow the steps to add money
In addition, you can also choose to have the money automatically added to your Apple Account. Then choose to top up weekly, biweekly or monthly. In addition, you can also select the option ‘Enable automatic charging‘ use. Then your balance will be automatically topped up when it is used up.
Possible longer processing time
If you buy credit via iDEAL, you should take into account that the processing time at Apple can take a bit longer. As soon as the payment is confirmed at Apple, the balance of your Apple Account will be increased. That in the worst cases takes a few hours. Do not add new money if it is not already on it.
Not for family sharing
iDEAL and Bancontact are only available when you no uses family sharing, anyone using family sharing must have a credit card or PayPal.
