Use Next List via Music for iPhone, iPad, and Mac

The Music app has always used a Next list, but many users don’t even know it exists. With ‘Next’ it is possible to view the queue of next songs and you can easily add new songs to it.

As soon as you start listening to music, the next list is supplemented, this is especially the case when you play an album or playlist. Whenever multiple songs are available, they will be added to Next.

View next list on iPhone or iPad

  1. Play a song
  2. Tap the Current view at the bottom
  3. The song being played is displayed large
  4. Tap it list icon

The list shows all the songs that your iPhone, iPad or Mac will play. You can easily adjust the order by moving the numbers with the three horizontal stripes on an iPhone or iPad. On a Mac, you adjust the order by dragging the song.

Next list on a Mac or Apple TV

Just like on an iPhone or iPad, it is possible to consult the list of upcoming songs on your Apple TV. Here too you serve it tapping the list icon. On a Mac you will find this icon at the top right of the Music app. This can be consulted at the media controls on TV.

Add music to next

If you would like to add extra songs to the next list, you can do this quite easily. Search your iPhone or iPad music library for the song and place your finger on the song you want to add. Select ‘Play next’ or ‘Play last’ from the menu. You can also click on the tap next to the number.

On a Mac you do this by clicking on the three dots next to the number. Of course, you can also click on the music track with a secondary click (right mouse button) and then add it to the list.

  • Open the Music app (from iOS/iPadOS 14.5)
  • Navigate to a playlist or album
  • Swipe on a music track to add it
  • Swipe from right to left to add the song to your library
  • Swipe from left to right to add the song to your next list

In addition, since iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 it is also possible to drag music to the list. Place your finger on the item, wait for it to rise, then drag it to the bottom of the screen on the currently playing song. The added songs will then automatically play next.

Remove songs from Next

On an iPhone or iPad, swipe from right to left over the song in the list that you want to delete. On a Mac, it is sufficient to select the number and click on the red dot or use the right mouse button.
