The calculator app for iPhone, iPad and Mac is useful for fast calculations, but did you know that a scientific version has also been built into the app?
With the calculator app you can easily perform sinus, pi, cosinus and other mathematical calculations. This means you no longer have to install a separate calculator or special mathematical app. We explain step by step how you can activate the scientific calculator under iOS, iPados and macOS. To be able to use the calculator app on an iPad, it must be equipped with iPados 18 or newer.
Activate scientific calculator on iPhone and iPad
To be able to use the scientific calculator on an iPhone or iPad (with iPados 18 or newer), go through the steps below:
- Open the calculator application
- Turn your device in landscape display.
- The scientific calculator is now automatically activated.
Activate scientific calculator under macOS
- Open the calculator application
- In the menu, click the ‘display’ menu.
- Then click on the ‘Scientific’ menu option
If you are good at remembering key combinations, using command⌘ + 2 If the calculator app is active, you can also activate the scientific calculator. That saves a few clicks.
No scientific calculator visible
If you don’t get to see the extensive calculator on your iPhone, then you probably have the rotation lock of the screen active. You can easily disable the rotation lock on your iPhone via the control panel. Open the control panel on your iPhone, switch off the rotary lock by tapping the padlock with a rotating arrow and there is no more white background visible.
Alternative to iPad users (iPados 17 or earlier)
If you cannot install iPados 18 on your iPad, you unfortunately cannot use the calculator app. In that case you can install an app such as Calcbot 2 from the App Store. This app has similar functions such as the Apple calculator app.
