Using advanced search in Windows 10: you want to know

Windows 10 has an extensive search function that allows you to find files. The extra options make it possible to search in folders and other places where the regular functionality falls short. But how do you activate it and how does the function work?

With the extensive search function you can search your entire computer from a built-in search bar. So you don’t need any external or other programs or apps for this. Before activating the function, please keep in mind that this can take a long time. So if you work on a laptop, it is a good idea to plug in the device. Moreover, the search via this functionality takes a lot of processing power; so if you do this while working, you may encounter all kinds of delays. Now let’s turn the option on first.

Advanced Search Activate Windows 10

Open the Settings application from Windows 10 by the Windows key and the i pressing together. Or open Start, after which you click on the gear. One of the options that now appears on the screen is Search. Click on that. You land on the page called Permissions and History. Click the button now Search in Windows. You will find it in the menu on the left. Under the heading Search my files do you see that Classic is checked. Windows will then only search through files in your libraries and the desktop. The option we are looking for is below: Advanced. Then you search your entire PC. Also read the text carefully that is mentioned with the option.

You can reduce the average search time somewhat by excluding folders from the advanced search. You restore that operation by removing the folders from that list, of course. Fortunately, adding folders is very simple. On the same page you see the heading Excluded folders with the button for Add an excluded folder. Click on that and select the folder(s) you want to exclude in the dialog box that pops up. Do you still want to include a folder in the search or do you want to remove a folder that Windows 10 excludes by default? Then click on the name of that folder and then on the button Delete Excluded Folder.

Finally, two more options

Finally, we have two other options on this page: Performance Indexer and More settings search indexere. If you want the extensive search engine to respect the power settings of your laptop, then slide the check mark from left to right (and therefore from from nasty On). The second option gives you even more control over how Windows 10 searches your computer. when you’re on Advanced Search Indexer Settings click (the blue text) then you can select all kinds of locations that you want Windows to take.
