Did you know that you can use your HomePod as a speaker for your Apple TV? This is ideal when the speakers of your TV are not very good. In this article, we’ll show you how to get it done.
Manual: Using HomePod as an Apple TV speaker
The Apple TV and HomePod prove that the Apple ecosystem works seamlessly together. You can use the latter as the audio output than your Apple media box. Thus, the sound of movies, games and music is played through the Apple speaker (s). You need an Apple TV 4 (or 4K) and HomePod connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- In the same room
First, make sure that the set Apple TV and HomePod are in the same room in the Home app, such as the Living Room. You can assign a room to added smart home devices via the Home app;
- Confirm
Check? Then turn on your Apple TV. If all goes well, the media box will immediately ask if you want to use the HomePod as TV speakers: confirm this;
- Listen
From now on, all audio from the Apple TV (should be) will play through your HomePod.
Set manually
Do you not see the above message? Then you can also manually add the HomePod as an Apple TV speaker. To do this, go to the Settings app on your Apple TV and tap ‘Video & Audio’. Then choose ‘Standard Audio Output’ and specify your HomePod as the speaker.
Doesn’t this work? Then try it on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Open the Home app, then long-press your Apple TV, then scroll to the bottom and choose Standard Audio Output. Then select the room in which your HomePod is located.
Use a stereo pair as an Apple TV speaker
Do you have multiple HomePods at home? Then it is possible to use a stereo pair as audio output for the Apple TV. When setting up the second copy, you should be able to create such a stereo pair, after which the speakers will work synchronously.
If this is not the case, you can still arrange it manually via the Home app. Long press one of the two HomePods, tap Details, then choose Create Stereo Pair. Then choose the second Apple speaker to pair them. Then you can follow the steps above to use this stereo pair as an Apple TV speaker.
