Since iOS 17, iPados 17 and Safari 17 you can use profiles in Apple’s web browser. This is especially useful if you use your Apple products both private and for work or school.
Safari profiles can easily be used for various topics or activities. This way you keep your history, extensions, tab groups, cookies and favorites per profile separated from each other. Setting is a piece of cake, but the use is getting used to.
Safari Profile Create
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad
- Navigate to ‘Safari’
- Scroll down to ‘profiles’
- Tap ‘New profile’
- Enter the desired specifications
On a Mac you can create this via Safari â–¸ Menu bar â–¸ Safari â–¸ Settings â–¸ Profiles â–¸ Click on the Plus button.

Switch between profiles
- Safari
- Navigate to the tab overview (overlapping squares)
- Tap at the bottom of the user symbol (silhouette)
- Choose a desired profile
On a Mac you can do this by clicking on the dropdown menu to choose a profile in addition to the previous symbol. You can also change tab group via this road.
Get used to use
Because everything is separated, it is sometimes searching for the right bookmarks and settings. You can easily link extensions, bookmarks, etc. to a specific profile, but this sometimes results that you are also looking for that one website in your bookmarks and remains elsewhere.
