Using the MijnGovernment message box app

Using the MijnGovernment message box app

Receive the messages from MijnOverheid on your tablet or telephone.

The Message Box is part of MijnOverheid. In this, people receive digital mail from government agencies. Such as the messages from the tax authorities. Every Dutch person who has activated MijnGovernment has his own Message Box. This can be used online, but also via a handy app. After installing the app and activating it once, log in with a PIN code.

For security reasons, the Message Box is only accessible via DigiD. But there is also an app for the smartphone or tablet. The user links the app to his DigiD data and then he only needs a self-chosen PIN code to view the Message Box. That saves a lot of work.

  • Download and install the app for the iPhone/iPad or android devices.
  • Open the Message Box app.
  • Tap on Next one.
  • You will be asked if you already have a Message Box. You have this if you have a MijnGovernment account. Activate the account if you don’t already have one. Tap on Yes.
  • You may receive a message that the app only works if you also have a working DigiD app on your device. In that case, tap To download. You must activate this app first. Follow the instructions in the DigiD app for this.
  • Go back to the Message Box app.
  • Tap on login > Ilog in.
  • Enter the pin code you have set in the DigiD app.
  • Optionally tap Turn off > Not allowed or Turn on > Allow anyway.

An overview of the messages in your own Message Box opens. By the way, right after you close the app, it is secured. No need to log out. The next time you start the app, enter the PIN and open the Message Box.
