Using Waypoints on an Apple Watch

On Apple Watch SE, Ultra, Series 6, and later models running at least watchOS 9, you can add your current location as a waypoint in the Compass app.

This could be the parking lot of your car, a nice stopover that you would like to visit on the way back or a picnic bench in your favorite nature reserve. Via the Kompas app you can easily see the distance and direction to each route point that you create.

Add Waypoint Apple Watch

  • Open the Compass app on your Apple Watch
  • Tap the compass rose to add a waypoint
  • Add information about the waypoint, such as the label, color and symbol
  • Then tap ‘Done’

You can only create waypoints when you are actually at the location. It is not possible to place points in the Compass app in advance.

Using Waypoints on an Apple Watch

Navigating to a saved point

To view a compass waypoint, tap a waypoint on any of the three Compass screens, turn the Digital Crown to select a waypoint, then tap Select. The distance and direction to the waypoint will appear on the screen, for example, “6 km to the left.”

Tap at the bottom of the screen to display the waypoint, including coordinates, on a map. You can edit or delete existing waypoints via the menu. Good to know: there is also a complication that gives you quick access to your waypoints.
