Viaplay account sharing is no longer possible during live streams of sporting events

All streaming services hate it; users who share their account with other people outside their household. For that reason, Viaplay has announced new rules that make sharing an account more difficult.

From February 26, 2024, Viaplay subscribers will no longer be able to watch the same live stream of a sports match at two different locations. From then on you can only view a stream from one IP address. We explain how this works and how you can solve it.

Viaplay account sharing rules

From February 26, 2024, the rules regarding sharing a Viaplay account have become stricter. Previously, it was possible to stream Viaplay content with two devices simultaneously, regardless of your location. For example, if you were watching a live stream at home and a family member was elsewhere, for example on holiday, this was no problem at all. However, because people shared their accounts with users other than people from the same household, Viaplay has become stricter.

Live streams of sports competitions, such as Formula 1 races, can now only be streamed from one IP address. The person who first starts the stream determines the IP address, when the second person starts the stream this works without any problems if the IP address is the same. If this is not the case, the second person will see a message stating that viewing from two locations is not possible.

This only applies to live streams of sporting events at the same time. This way, the second person can watch a football match or darts competition, while the other person watches a Formula 1 race at a different location. This is also the case for films and series, which can be streamed from multiple addresses.

The new rules may make it difficult to look into the future when members of the family go on holiday and others stay behind. Fortunately, there are solutions.

Solution: F1 TV Pro

It is annoying that Viaplay no longer allows you to watch Formula 1 from two different locations, but there is a solution. In 2024, all Viaplay subscribers will be able to use F1 TV Pro for free. As a subscriber you can then choose where you will watch Formula 1.

Viaplay continues with its own productions with Dutch commentary, Dutch reporting from the studio and exclusive documentaries about Max Verstappen. On F1 TV Pro you can also watch the race, but also the option to choose different camera angles and extra training. This means you can watch Formula 1 from two locations. You can watch yours via the F1 TV website Link Viaplay account.

Discount on Viaplay annual subscription

If you shared your account with people outside your household, this has now become more difficult. It is best for users to each create their own account. Fortunately, you can now purchase an annual subscription to Viaplay at an extra affordable price. This way you get a 20% discount and you don’t pay € 15.99 per month, but € 12.79 per month.

The subscription has a binding period of 12 consecutive months during which you automatically pay € 12.79 per month. After this binding period ends, your subscription will automatically be converted to a subscription without a binding period at the then applicable rate list. You can also try the service for free for a week (valid until February 28, 2024).
