Fearless: The Women Fighting Putin

This BAFTA-winning film follows the stories of three female Russian opposition candidates who follow in Alexei Navaly’s footsteps and risk their lives to campaign against President Putin’s suppression of free speech, even if it means losing everything. Violetta Grudina, 31, an ally of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, wanted to run for the Murmansk city council in April 2021, but shocking footage shows her being forced to isolate herself in the Covid ward of a hospital, even though she does not have the virus. After being locked up for several weeks, Violetta goes on a hunger strike and is released eight days later, but is ultimately denied the right to stand for election. She appears in the documentary alongside Lusya Stein, who is part of the well-known Pussy Riot, an art-punk protest collective, and Irina Fatyanova, 32, an independent opposition candidate from St. Petersburg.

The Viking – The Fall of the Drug King
On April 28, Viaplay Original ‘The Viking – Downfall of a Drug Lord’ will premiere. The four-part series tells the story of drug kingpin Claus Malmqivst. A bad decision from the past leaves Claus Malmqivst’s criminal empire in ruins. For more than fifteen years, Cavling-winning journalist Jeppe Facius has been investigating the drug smuggler and trying to get him to talk. Sixteen years later, and now at large again, Claus Malmqvist is now prepared to tell his story. He has agreed to a series of interviews in which Jeppe Facius gets answers to the questions that have been skilfully kept secret until now.

Partisan – Season 2
Partisan’s second season will premiere on May 1, and all five episodes, starring Anna Björk as Jordnära’s strong-willed leader, will be available to watch immediately on Viaplay. In addition to Anna Björk (‘The Bridge’), there are once again roles for Sofia Karemyr, Linus Wahlgren, Ylvali Rurling, Emelie Garbers and Thomas Holmin. Swedish actress Nanna Blondell will make her debut as a veteran detective. The cast is further complemented by both Swedish and foreign stars, such as Aaron Staton (“Mad Men”), Julia Hevéus (“VÃ¥r tid är nu”) and Jens Hultén (“Skyfall”, “Mission Impossible”). Season two begins shortly after the life-and-death struggle between undercover cop Johnny (Fares Fares) and Jordnäras authoritarian leader Kent (Johan Rheborg), which ended season one. When the police investigate a deadly car accident, it turns out that the car in the accident is linked to the closed farming community of Jordnära. Police interest poses a new threat to Maud, played by Anna Björk, as he struggles to save her father’s life’s work.
