On an iPhone or iPad, passwords can be stored securely using the built-in password manager called Keychain. This feature encrypts and stores your passwords so they are secure and available when you need them.
If desired, you can sync the keychain with iCloud. The login details will then be synchronized securely, but stored locally. No login details are stored in iCloud itself. We explain how to view, edit and delete your passwords on iPhone or iPad.
View passwords
- Open the Passwords app
- Unlock the feature with Face ID, Touch ID or passcode
- Choose a desired category
- Tap or click a password in the list
- The login details are shown
Do you have an iPhone or iPad with iOS 17, iPadOS 17 or older? You can then find your passwords via Settings ▸ Passwords. Do you have a Mac with macOS Sonoma or older? This can be done via  ▸ System settings ▸ Passwords.
Edit login details
After selecting an account, app or website from the list, you can view the login details. This way you will see your username and by tapping on the password you can also view and copy it.
Tap ‘Change’ at the top to adjust the information. For example, you can change the username or enter a new password.
Delete account and password
If you have canceled your account, you can also delete the login details in the keychain. This can be done directly from the list by swiping from right to left on the item and choosing ‘Delete’.
Use the ‘Edit’ button to select multiple items in the list and delete them at once. You can also delete the login details by opening it and choosing ‘Remove password’ at the bottom.
Share account information
Do you want to share your login details with someone else? Then you can use AirDrop. Open the password in the overview and then tap the share button. You can then share the login details via AirDrop.
Family passwords
Since iOS 17, iPadOS 17 and macOS Sonoma, you can also use family passwords. This is part of Keychain and ensures that you can easily share passwords with other Apple users. Contrary to the name, you can also share these passwords with people who are not members of Family Sharing.
