The number of infections is increasing and the corona measures are becoming stricter again. But there are still people who do not take the danger posed by the virus seriously. A senior doctor from Essen has made an impressive appeal to her.
For weeks, experts have been warning of a second wave of the corona pandemic. The doctor Carola Holzner is convinced: “The second wave is not coming. She’s already there. ”Holzner works as a senior physician in the emergency room at Essen University Hospital. In a Facebook post, she describes what she is currently experiencing there.
“24h emergency room, no sleep, Covid patients almost every hour,” writes Holzner in the post. Due to the close contact with corona patients, Holzner and other employees in the health system expose themselves to the risk of becoming infected. “And that’s why it makes me really angry when it is often handled so succinctly.”
“That could soon be your lungs”
In her post, the doctor primarily criticizes corona deniers and conspiracy theorists. “What if Corona doesn’t exist? What do I actually see all day in the emergency room ?! ”Holzner also posted a CT scan of a lung infected with the virus. “Healthy tissue is black. Pretty white lungs, right? ”She writes. “This could soon be your lungs.”
“Why don’t you believe the doctors?”
Holzner also calls for compliance with the Corona requirements: “If distance and a mask would protect against a heart attack, for example, we would take it seriously. Because with a heart attack everyone knows that it is dangerous. Then why don’t you doctors who treat these patients LIVE believe that Covid can also be dangerous. “
The post was liked, shared and commented on thousands of times on Facebook. However, there is also a lot of criticism of the doctor in the comments. Some commentators claim, for example, that hospitals hardly treat Covid patients anymore – and that the doctor spreads “fake news”. Several users are also bothered by the happy selfie that the doctor shared with her post. However, she wrote: “Despite everything, we keep our mood. We won’t let that be taken from us. “
Utopia means: The corona requirements have been tightened almost everywhere in Germany, and in some areas there is already talk of a possible renewed lockdown. The post from Holzner is an important reminder of the consequences that increasing numbers of infections have on the health system. Now it is important not to become negligent – and to protect yourself and others from infection.
