Vivo presents foldable smartphone with familiar design

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo announces its first foldable smartphone: the Vivo X Fold. Not only the name is a bit unimaginative; the design is also very familiar to us.

The Oppo X Fold will not be released worldwide for the time being and will soon only be for sale to people in China. The device has a large 8.03-inch screen when you unfold it, while there is still a 6.53-inch screen on the front. Both screens support 120 Hertz and HDR10+.

In the middle of the colossus is a hinge with which you can put the smartphone in different positions. You can lay the device almost completely flat, with the emphasis on almost. In addition, you can easily leave it in angles of 60 and 120 degrees.

A striking feature of the Vivo X Fold is that it has two fingerprint scanners. Those scanners are in both screens, so it doesn’t matter how you use the device. You can safely unlock everything from both screens.

Furthermore, the screen is equipped with ‘ultra-thin glass’ on the inside. We heard that story before at Samsung and that is not surprising; both manufacturers use the same technology. You can fold the screen about 300,000 times.

A typical flagship of Vivo

In other areas we are dealing with what we can classify as a typical flagship of Vivo. For example, under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, up to 12 GB of RAM and a maximum of 512 GB of internal storage.

The battery has a capacity of 4,600 mAh, which can be charged at a speed of 66 watts. The device is fully charged within 36 minutes, according to Vivo. In addition, you can also charge wirelessly, with a speed of 55 watts, and reverse charging is available, at 10 watts.

On the back we find four cameras. There is a main camera of fifty megapixels, which has optical image stabilization. There is also a twelve megapixel camera that optically zooms in twice, as well as a 48 megapixel wide-angle lens and periscope camera for five times zoom.

It is not yet clear whether Vivo will release this device outside of China. But if that’s the case, be prepared to dig deep. Converted, the X Fold gets a price tag of more than 1,300 euros, and yes, that is excluding the 21 percent VAT that comes on it.
