After a year of Corona delay, the European Championship 2020 will break loose from June 11, 2021. There are many ways to live stream or watch the matches. Both via apps, Chromecast and media players. We explain how to watch European Championship football on all your devices in this article.
Unlike the Eredivisie and other major football competitions, the European Championship can be viewed without payment obligations or other payment hurdles. That makes it easy and fun for the football fan to follow the European Championship everywhere, just by watching the matches or even looking back. We tell you how this is possible.
Mobile NPO app
The rights to broadcast the European Football Championship 2020 are in the Netherlands with the public broadcaster. This means that the matches can be viewed on TV via the open channel if you have a TV subscription. You can also watch the matches on smart TVs via the NPO app. The same goes for your smartphone and tablet. On your PC you can watch the European Championship football matches via the browser on the site of the NOS and NPO.
If you are abroad and want to follow the European Championship, you will have to use a VPN to redirect data traffic via the Netherlands. The NPO app will not work when you make a foreign connection. Because you redirect all your data traffic, it is recommended that you use a reliable VPN service. Unfortunately, in almost all cases these are paid VPN services. Think of Private Internet Access, NordVPN, ExpressVPN and VyprVPN. When you connect to the VPN service, you can choose from different servers in all kinds of locations. If you opt for a Dutch server, you can simply use the NPO app or site. Moreover, a VPN is a handy way to protect your own data.

cast
A handy advantage of the NPO app is that it supports the cast function. This way you can place your TV or other screen anywhere to watch the European Championship, without being dependent on your TV box. You can also use a monitor, for example; After all, a Chromecast works on any screen, as long as there is an HDMI port. However, make sure that the monitor has built-in speakers for the sound. All you need is a WiFi connection and the NPO app on your smartphone.
To be able to get the WiFi connection that is needed for casting everywhere, you could look at a 4G (or 5G) router. This way you have your small network in remote places, such as at the campsite for example. Make sure that you have enough data available and that the speed is sufficient for the video stream.
Other apps
As I wrote, many smart TVs offer an NPO app, so a Chromecast is not necessary. Some TVs running on Android TV even have the cast functionality built in. Only a TV with internet connection is sufficient.
If you use a media player, such as an Apple TV, you can also use the app of the public broadcaster. Your PlayStation and Xbox consoles also offer the NPO app. If you have a media player with the Kodi operating system, the NPO app is no longer officially available, but you will have to move to unofficial apps to be able to follow the European Championship.

Match schedule in the agenda
Now that your equipment is ready to follow the European Championship, it’s time to schedule the European Championship matches. That way you know you won’t miss any of the important matches.
