Until about two years ago, Game of Thrones (GoT) was still the talk of the town. The series can now be given a new boost by the new streaming service HBO Max. Have you not seen the popular series yet? Then this might be the right time to watch Game of Thrones on HBO Max.
Streaming Game of Thrones on HBO Max
When the first season (of eight) aired in June 2011, streaming services were still very new. Just for the idea; Netflix only came to the Netherlands in 2013 and at that time many battles had already been fought in the world of GoT.
Anyone who wanted to watch Game of Thrones (legally) could do so via Ziggo. HBO was then offered as an extra channel. Now Game of Thrones can be watched on the new streaming service HBO Max and you can also enjoy it on your iPhone or iPad.
73 Episodes: Good Reason to Binge Watch
Of course you don’t subscribe to a streaming service for a single series, but if you haven’t seen GoT yet, this series can be the decisive argument for purchasing HBO Max.
The eight seasons together account for 73 episodes and about the same number of hours to binge watch. But how many hours you spend watching isn’t the only aspect of getting addicted to Game of Thrones.
What is the Game of Thrones story about?
We flatten the 73 episodes in a few sentences. An alternate world has seven kingdoms with just as many kings. The problem is that they actually all want to comment on the whole thing and spend the necessary war and intrigue on it.
As the families fight each other, the entire world is threatened by a far more dangerous people who threaten to emerge from behind a gigantic wall. In the series they talk about ‘Winter is coming’. Apart from all storylines, the arrival of these winter people in the eight seasons is central.
Why should you watch GoT?
This is mainly due to the fact that the story is spread over so many seasons and episodes. This means that all aspects of life are extensively covered. Love, marriage, intrigue, war, murder, fighting spirit, handsome men, beautiful women, beautiful landscapes…everything comes along. GoT is actually a perfect combination between a soap and a fantasy film: The Bold and the Beautiful meets Lord of the Rings.
In addition, from the first season there is already talk about the coming winter. From the first episodes you can’t wait for the winter people to pass the wall and the great war to begin. Thanks to HBO Max, you don’t have to wait eight years for that … you watch all seasons in succession. Oh yes, there are dragons involved too.
Criticism of Game of Thrones
Of course, not every episode is equally great. Some seasons are known for the many dark shots and every now and then storylines get very long-winded. The problem that you don’t run into as a new viewer is that you have to ‘get in’ every season in all (unpronounceable) names.
Another point of criticism is that you have to wait a very long time until the winter people actually come out from behind the wall. But we have to say that we wouldn’t hesitate for a minute to watch Game of Thrones if we hadn’t already.
Game of Thrones prequel
The Game of Thrones prequel has also been announced, which you can watch on HBO soon. You’ll have to be patient though, because the Game Of Thrones prequel ‘House Of The Dragon’ won’t premiere on HBO Max until August 21.
The new House of the Dragon series tells the backstory of the Targaryens. The series is set in the original Game of Thrones for 200 years.
HBO Max
Game of Thrones just might be the reason to add HBO Max to your list of new streaming hobbies. But there are more. HBO Max has come up with the unique offer: if you take out a subscription before April 1, you only pay 50 percent of the current rate for the rest of your life.
In addition, the range of the new streaming service is already impressively wide. In addition to streaming Game of Thrones, there are also golden oldies such as Sex in the City and Friends to watch. But you will also find the Sopranos and the Powerpuff Girls there. Just like the entire Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter series. There is something for everyone!
