What animal species gave rise to flowers?

Asker: camomile, 9 years

Answer

The origin of today’s animal and plant species has been a process of many years of evolution. For example, all animals used to live in the sea. Coincidentally, fish arose that could walk around on the seabed with their fins. Still later, these fish evolved into animals that could walk on land and breathe. Some land animals have returned to the sea. Some mammals have returned to life in the water and have exchanged their legs for fins after millions of years. These are the whales and dolphins.

Evolution works by chance. Take, for example, the case of whales. When the whales’ ancestors went back to the sea, they still had legs. When a baby was accidentally born that had more membranes between its toes, it could swim better and therefore survive better and in turn had children who could swim even better and so on. In the long run, the whales of today were created: they no longer have legs, but do have fins.

The same goes for the flowers. In the beginning, plants did not immediately have those beautiful beautiful flowers, but gradually flowers emerged again and by chance there were also insects that found the nectar more easily through those flowers. Insects that had a better or longer tongue had easier access to the nectar, so that they had more food and could survive better and have stronger children. Plants with the most beautiful flowers could attract the most insects and could therefore spread more seeds and their children would have even more beautiful and larger flowers.

So there was not a certain animal species that caused flowers, but flowers were created by accidental errors in the plant that happened to attract more insects. And as soon as this system of the ancestor of the flower with the ancestor of the bee existed and turned out to work well, it was further developed because the best flowers and the best bees could survive better and better and thus pass on their good qualities to their children.
