Which moon was there that night, a regular or a blood moon?
Asker: kalloe, 50 years
Answer
There was nothing special about the phase of the moon that day. The moon was just past the first quarter. The first quarter was on September 13 at 10.23 pm (our time). The next full moon was on September 21 at 6:32 PM (our time). So the moon was just over half full on September 15, 1964. A fat right half was lit.
A blood moon can only occur during a lunar eclipse and therefore only during a full moon. So certainly not on September 15, 1964
