I’m working on a project about airplanes and about the airport
and my daddy said planes run on kerosene.
but i don’t like what it looks like.or what color it is.but i wonder why airplanes prefer to fly on kerosene.
Answer
Hi Michael,
Large jet aircraft and also many propeller planes do indeed use kerosene to power the engines. The engines must be supplied with fuel from the storage tanks under all circumstances, which is why kerosene is chosen. It burns well in very extreme temperature conditions, from very cold -40 degrees Celsius to very hot +60 degrees Celsius. As a result, you cannot take petrol or diesel.
Kerosene is also light yellow to colorless and is usually referred to as JET-A1.
When working with kerosene, you must of course always pay attention to safety! No flames nearby and always ventilate well! Note that kerosene is safer than gasoline at normal temperatures, a good thing.
Sincerely,
