What is the name of my plant? It resembles physalis, and has blue flowers. Are the fruits edible?

In one of my flower pots, a plant with blue flowers spontaneously appeared that bears fruits that look very much like the fruits of physalis. The leaves are toothed, the plant is now about 50 cm high and slows down in growth. The stems and fruits have black stripes. So I did not sow the plant myself, but did use soil from the compost heap.

Answer

Dear Hendrik,

I suspect you are talking about Nicandra physalodes (L.) Gartn., family of Physalis (Nightshade family). Originally from Peru, it is also used as an ornamental plant.
