Europasaurus is an example of dwarfism in sauropods. What is the name of the Paleoisland that Europasaurus lived on during the Jurassic? Just like Magyarosaurus from the Cretaceous period that lived on the paleo island of Hateg Island.
Answer
Dear Eric,
Europasaurus could indeed be an example of dwarfism in dinosaurs, where everything is relative of course, because this sauropod was still about 6 meters long when fully grown. Europasaurus lived 155 million years ago during the Late Jurassic on the edge of the Rhenish Massif (in present-day Germany). The Rhenish Massif was then probably a rather small island in a sea that covered large parts of Europe. Depending on the relative rises and falls of the sea level, that island was sometimes smaller and sometimes larger, whereby it could also link up with the Massif of Brabant that forms the subsoil of Belgium. So maybe Europasaurus or a related species also walked around here during the late Jurassic.
