AirPods are incredibly popular and work great in the Apple ecosystem. Unfortunately, it can happen that you get the message ‘AirPods cannot be verified’. The earphones are usually the cause.
Because Apple’s headphones are so popular, they are profiting from them. For example, there are a lot of fake AirPods for sale on the internet. For a few tens of euros you can get a copy, you can connect it in the same way as the original, but Apple has now put a stop to that.
Fake AirPods Notification
If you bought a pair of AirPods via a webshop, store or second-hand, the question remains whether they are original. Unfortunately, Apple’s earphones are counterfeited and sold via various platforms. They are almost indistinguishable from the real thing and you can’t see any differences with the naked eye.

To help users, Apple has built a warning into the software since iOS 16. If you pair fake AirPods to your iPhone or iPad, you may see the message ‘AirPods cannot be verified’.
AirPods cannot be verified
If you get this message when your AirPods try to connect to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, make sure you have genuine AirPods. This message will appear if you try to pair a fake AirPod to your device.

The notification is just a warning, you can continue using the wireless earbuds. You can choose not to connect the unverified AirPods or to connect them in the Bluetooth settings. If you allow the fake AirPods to connect, they may not perform as expected.
