WhatsApp is working on a new look for its desktop version in Windows. The beta version of the desktop app shows the first design influences that are reminiscent of Windows 11. We show the new look.
Design WhatsApp desktop
In November, it was announced that the beta version of WhatsApp Desktop is now available as a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) app. That’s an app that works on Windows PCs, tablets, and Xbox consoles. The advantage of UWP is not only that WhatsApp works like this on all Microsoft platforms, but also that the app takes over the design of Windows.
And it is with that design that WhatsApp developers are now working hard as they update their UWP app to the design of Windows 11. The developers are switching to a new package of design elements that brings WinUI 2.6.
Windows 11 makeover
The Windows Rumor Spreader FireCube makes in a tweet a comparison between the old and new design. We can clearly already see the typical rounded corners of Windows 11, even if the interface has not been completely renewed yet. That also makes sense since it is a beta version of the app.
We expect that the WhatsApp beta desktop application will become even more similar to Windows 11 in the near future. It is not yet known when the stable version of WhatsApp will be available as a UWP app. Presumably, the stable app will immediately receive the final Windows 11 design.
WhatsApp’s UWB app comes with multi-device support. In other words, you stay connected, even if you break the connection between your PC and phone. Are you already testing the beta version of the WhatsApp Desktop app? You can do that via a download in the Microsoft Store.
