Make your WhatsApp conversations more fun with sending stickers. iPhoned shows you how to use the stickers and how to choose the pictures.
This is how you use WhatsApp stickers
WhatsApp introduced the option to send stickers via the chat service in October 2018. Sending stickers has been possible for users of competitor Telegram or Messenger for much longer. You could already send GIFs via WhatsApp. Since then, WhatsApp conversations can also be cheered up with all kinds of images, which has now become a popular function.
The chat app has made numerous sticker packs available for you to add. This is how you can add and use the WhatsApp stickers.
- Go to a conversation in WhatsApp;
- In the typing bar you see the sticker icon, select it;
- Tap the plus sign in the top right to add new stickers;
- Select a pack to view the stickers and tap the download icon or the ‘Download’ button to add them;
- Go to the ‘My stickers’ menu to determine the order of your stickers. You do this by dragging them up or down via the icon on the right.
When you have added stickers to your keyboard, simply send them by selecting one. The picture will then immediately appear in the conversation. With the addition of stickers, the button that you use to search for and add GIFs to a conversation has also been moved.
To open the gif menu in the new version of the app, press the sticker icon. Then select the gif icon at the bottom. From here you search and send GIFs as usual. To return to your keyboard from the stickers or gifs collection, press the small keyboard in the typing bar.
Waiting for external sticker apps
WhatsApp itself offers twelve sticker packs, but an avid user soon wants more pictures. That is why the chat service also lets external developers make stickers that you can use in WhatsApp.
We just have to wait for the first sticker apps for WhatsApp to appear in the App Store. Via such apps you could then import new sticker packs to WhatsApp, so that you can add them there and use them immediately. The update will roll out to everyone gradually over the next few days.
