WhatsApp update for iOS adds two useful features

The iOS version of WhatsApp has been updated to version 2.18.22, which adds two new features. For example, it is now possible to quickly switch to a video call, when you use the normal calling function.

This is new in WhatsApp 2.18.22

The option to quickly switch to the video calling function during an audio call is useful, because previously you had to end the call and start the video call ‘separately’. Now you can activate the video calling function directly from the call by tapping the middle button (‘Video calling’). You will then receive a notification to switch to the video call.

Also new is the @ button. When you tap on this, you will immediately see all unread messages in which your name is mentioned. This only applies within group conversations. The feature is useful when you still have to read dozens of messages in a group conversation, but only want to know what is important to you. We do not yet see the button on our own iPhones, but may be gradually rolled out to everyone.

Also (video) calling on the iPad

Recently, it was rumored that the iPad version of WhatsApp, which has still not appeared, will also get a calling function. This makes it possible to call other WhatsApp users with your tablet, although the iPad must be paired with your iPhone (or Android smartphone).

The calling feature is also likely to come to the web and desktop version of WhatsApp. There it is already possible to record audio messages with the microphone of your computer, so it seems like a small step to extend this to full telephone conversations. Incidentally, it is already possible to use WhatsApp on the iPad by starting the web version.
