These days, WhatsApp is full of all kinds of features. Some of them are also very practical, although they are not always known to users. This is the case for the so-called “ephemeral” messages that we present to you today!
For several years now, WhatsApp has allowed its users to send ephemeral messages, photos and/or videos. Once this option is activated, content sent to your recipients is automatically deleted after a certain period.
Already well known to networks like Snapchat and Instagram, this functionality however seems less popular with the many followers of Meta messaging. This is why we explain to you in this quick and simple tutorial how to activate it, whether you are on iOS or Android. Let’s go !
Enable/Disable Ephemeral Conversations in WhatsApp
1. Launch the WhatsApp app and open a chat
First of all, start by launching the WhatsApp application from your iOS or Android smartphone. So far, nothing too complicated.
2. Click on the contact name
Secondly, select the conversation of your choice (the one for which you want to activate ephemeral messages). Next, click on the contact’s name (or profile photo) at the very top of the thread.
3. Click on “Ephemeral messages”
Once you arrive on the Contact Info page, scroll down until you come face to face with the Ephemeral Messages function. By default, this is disabled.
4. Determine how long before your messages disappear
In the “Ephemeral messages” section, WhatsApp gives you the option of determining the time limit after which your content will be deleted from conversations. You will then have the choice between three options: 24 hours, 7 days and 90 days. You are free to select the one you prefer according to your preferences and needs.
In addition to preserving your privacy on WhatsApp, activating this feature will allow you to free up space on your device. In fact, the messages will disappear from the conversation after the duration previously determined by you.
Finally, note that it is now possible for certain users to prevent ephemeral messages from disappearing, provided, however, that you agree.
