Answer

In any case, the Earth will never just explode of its own accord. So what could happen?

Well, the sun has a total age of about ten billion years, about half of which is now past. After that, the sun will undergo a series of changes, which may not make the earth disappear, but it will become completely uninhabitable. The sun will then become thousands of times brighter, and all life on the earth and the atmosphere will disappear. What remains is then just a large spherical clump of matter.

It could also go wrong earlier when a large asteroid crashes into Earth. The Earth itself may not be destroyed by this, but depending on the size of that asteroid, a large part of life, or even all life, could disappear. Whether this will happen, and when, we cannot predict at the moment. Hopefully, humanity will be able to reverse course such an asteroid by then.

But life could also disappear because of that man himself, if we ourselves would make our planet uninhabitable, because of war, because of global warming.

So, I think the Earth as a planet still has many billions of years to go, but that may not be the case for life as we know it.

When will the Earth be lost?
