I found this beetle in the attic and wonder if this is a danger to the wood.

Dear Maria,
This insect is not a beetle or beetle, but a bug (order Heteroptera). In the autumn quite a lot of insects enter the house, looking for a wintering place. This is also the case for this bug. Bugs have stinging/sucking mouthparts and feed mainly on plant juices from leaves and fruits. They certainly won’t affect wood, nor cause any other damage in the home, nothing to worry about.
