Hello, I found this piece of bid during renovation work in the garden. This looks like the upper part of an upper arm or am I wrong? Is this a human bone or animal? Mvg Jan

Answer
Based on this photo, this appears to be an animal bone fragment. The cortex (the compact bone on the outside) is more dense than animal bone, and the trabecular bone (the spongy bone on the inside) also has a different structure and shape.
In addition, the shape of bones is also used to distinguish between human and animal bone, and based on that too, this appears to be an animal bone.
Exactly which skeletal element it is is a question for an archaeologist.
