Which method always works to determine the prenumbers of redox reactions?

Which method is best? The method of half reactions or the method of oxidation numbers?

For example, how would you develop this response:

Mg + HCl –> Mg2+ + H2

Answer

Hi Tim,

I have worked out two responses (see attachment).
The method used is very easy and can always be applied, but you know nothing about the oxidation numbers of the elements and I think it is important that you can also determine them.

Hopefully I was able to help you.
