Next year I will have to choose a specialization in my chemical education. Biotechnology or plastics technology. Which direction has the best future and where do people find the easiest work? I live in the Kortrijk region. Both directions seem to interest me equally.
Answer
Both courses of study are of course worth choosing. I myself am a biotechnologist and can only speak from that experience, a plastics technologist can tell a completely different story.
Biotechnology offers many possibilities for the future, so you can use it in fundamental research, but also more applied in industry, for example.
To clearly outline all this, VIB has published a brochure: ‘become a scientist’. I’ll add it here, it gives a good overview of what biotechnology entails, how you can become a biotechnologist and what you can do with it.
