Dear, I just noticed this spider on the underside of the roof. She appears to have double front legs. Is she native and harmless?

Answer
Hi Carl,
You have found the very beautiful Pisaura mirabilis, the so-called maternity web spider. It’s so named because it makes a web in which she lays her egg sac and in which the young spiders spend their first days. It is a true hunting spider and therefore does not use a web to catch prey. It is a very common spider in our (non-millimeter) gardens. Spiders have eight legs. The double front legs you see are just the first two pairs. Like 99% of native spiders, she is completely harmless.
Kind regards,
Rudy
