Which Windows version do I have?

Windows 10 has had several major updates with associated metamorphoses. With Windows 11, there is also a new operating system from Microsoft. Which version are you using?


Windows 95, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11… All operating systems from Microsoft that followed each other. For Windows 10 and 11, Microsoft regularly makes new (major) updates available that keep the operating system up to date. It is therefore important to know which Windows version you are working in. In this way you determine which information and tips are important to you.

Each update has a version number. That number represents the version of Windows 10. Not everyone has the latest version at the same time. The updates will be rolled out (made available) over a longer period of time. The different versions are:

  • 21H1
    Update for Windows 10, May 2021.

  • 20H2
    Update for Windows 10, October 2020.
    (Released on October 20, 2020.)
  • 2004
    Update for Windows 10, May 2020.
    (Released on May 27, 2020.)

Windows 11 was released on October 4, 2021. The first version number of this operating system is 21H2.

To find out which version of Windows is on your computer or laptop, follow these steps:

  • Click the Start button > Institutions (the gear icon).
  • In Windows 10, click System. In Windows 11, this item is already open by default.
  • Click at the bottom Info.

Behind ‘Version’ (under ‘Windows specifications’) is the version number of Windows.

Windows installs updates automatically. This keeps the computer working optimally. Occasionally leave the computer on for a few hours so that necessary updates can be processed. If necessary, read the tip ‘Check Windows Update settings’.
