Why are cows black and white?

Most animals have an inconspicuous color to be as inconspicuous as possible to predators. In Europe, black and white camouflage is of no use, is it?

Answer

Dear Pino

I don’t think we should see the color of their fur as a camouflage technique, since European cows have long ceased to be wild animals. They owe their color rather by chance to the many selective crossings that have preceded to obtain a suitable variety. Wild bovines traditionally have an even, often dark color.

Not really useful, but nice to look at.

Kind regards
