Why can’t/should we still not build 100% energy-independent homes in 2018?

Long version of the question: Why can’t/should we still not build 100% energy-independent homes in 2018? Is this solely about power and money or is there more to it? Explanation: Every day we are bombarded with revolutionary, inventive, energy-generating inventions. Yet today we still do not succeed in living autonomously. Does this really have to do with the law of the strongest/wealthiest or is the technology not ready yet? Are the real revolutionary, who is only a small pawn, deliberately kept out of the streets for fear of collapsing the capitalist’s wallet or what is really going on here? On https://powerefficiencyguide.com/?pid=1&hop=gmf4u you see an initiative that is sometimes dubious to the general public, but I do believe that such things can and can even be the solution to poverty in the third world and a prosperous existence in the west. WHAT, however, prevents us from changing our mindset in this collective and just doing it en masse?

Answer

Dear sir,

In 2018 we can indeed build energy-independent homes. However, because of the cost price of the installations required for this, the space they occupy and the maintenance they require, this is not (yet) the optimal way of building.

As for the video you forwarded, I can only recommend being critical of it. the conclusions some non-experts draw from the limited information they have available and the promises they make.
