Why do flies always fly under the lamp?

I don’t mean by this just at night, when the lamp is on. Also during the day they constantly fly in the middle of the room under the lamp. During your exam time you already have some more time to look around your room. I noticed that my flies kept buzzing around under the lamp. This was also the case with others. I understand that they are attracted to the light at night. I don’t understand why they want to hang under that lamp during the day. Thank you very much for your answer!

Answer

Most flying insects have very specific reproductive behaviour. Some flies, there are thousands of different species, gather around a bush that stands out in the landscape and in the summer you can sometimes see swarms of thousands of small flies. In areas with hills, some species gather at the top of a hill, other species seek a small puddle to find each other.

The housefly you are talking about, of course, mainly resides indoors. When she is not looking for food she goes after a mate for reproduction. And with the housefly, it is good practice to gather at a protrusion from the ceiling of the room in which they reside. Usually that is a lamp. And whether it burns or not is of no importance.
