Why do some birds have pink fur?

Usually that has a function… doesn’t it?

Some birds are brown (to camouflage themselves, I think),

but why are some pink? Then they just stand out!

Answer

Normally, birds indeed have a brownish color, so that they do not stand out and are therefore well protected against enemies. Some birds have pink feathers and this color comes from their food. Flamingos, for example, eat shrimp and lobsters, which provide the pink color of the plumage. If the flamingo were to eat other foods, its feathers would be more likely to be white. The flamingo has no real natural enemies, so the color is less important.
