Why do we yawn?

Asker: jordy, 17 years old

Answer

If you only take shallow breaths for a while, which you typically do when you’re tired or lazy, the oxygen concentration in the blood gradually drops. In response, your body will take a longer and deep breath to compensate for this. It is best to do this with your mouth wide open, so that enough air can enter. You yawned at that moment.
