I once read that Jupiter and its moons look like a mini solar system
one that jupiter is almost as big as a sun
can jupiter ever become a sun?
Answer
If one compares Jupiter and its moons with the sun and its planets, it is only done to show that the moons of Jupiter revolve around Jupiter, all in the same direction and more or less in the same plane, just as the planets are all in the same plane. orbit in the same direction and more or less in the same plane around the sun.
But Jupiter will never become a star. Our sun is a star, a bright one, but there are brighter ones. It has been calculated that the lightest stars are about ten times brighter than our sun. Lighter stars cannot exist, nor are they observed.
Jupiter’s mass is only one thousandth that of the sun. So, Jupiter is a hundred times too light to form a star with it. You would have to lump a hundred Jupiters together to form even the brightest star.
