Windows shows yellow battery symbol, what is that?

Sometimes you suddenly come across a yellow battery symbol while using your Windows laptop. Don’t worry: you don’t have to replace the battery right away. But what is going on and what can you do about it?

What exactly is that yellow battery icon good for? Well, to draw your attention to a battery problem. You don’t immediately get what exactly is going on. Usually this icon appears when the battery is almost empty. If you have ten percent of energy left, you may have already seen that icon.

But it is also possible that the icon rears its head when your laptop still has enough juice. This sometimes happens when you start up a laptop. Fortunately, there are several solutions available for you to try.

The yellow battery symbol on Windows

For example, there may be a problem with an external monitor that you connected via USB-C. When that external display does not receive enough energy from the laptop, a glitch arises that the laptop does not know how to deal with. Unplug the screen and check if the problem is solved. If not, we will continue to try it out.

Another problem can be that the laptop receives power from a power cable, but the battery does not charge. If so, then we need a troubleshooter. Open Start and type Additional troubleshooters in. Search Power management in the list of solutions and click it. Now a button will appear: Run Troubleshooter. Press that. Let the system do its work for a while and see what Windows finds out.

If the troubleshooter doesn’t help either, check the power management settings. Open it Control Panel and go to Hardware and Sound. Now press Power management and then on Schedule Settings To adjust. Now press Use default settings for this scheme.

Battery driver

Finally, we can try uninstalling and reinstalling the battery driver. Before we can do this, we must first completely shut down the laptop, unplug the power cord and remove the battery. Now plug the plug back into the laptop and turn it on.

Open Start and type Device Manager in. Double click the drivers for Batteries. Now right click on Battery that complies with Microsoft AXPI control method.

Select remove device, shut down your laptop and unplug it. Now put the battery in the device and turn your laptop on again. After turning it on, Windows will install the driver automatically.
