Squad shares your iPhone screen with friends. This way you can gauge the reactions when buying clothes or, for example, give a family member technical support.
Squad: Screenshot+
There is no shortage of social media apps, but how ‘social’ are they really? Usually you are still on your own scrolling through someone else’s timeline or profile. The new Squad app puts an end to this by sharing your iPhone screen with friends. The idea is simple: with the push of a button, your friends, or squad, see everything that happens on your screen.
The possibilities are endless. For example, you can immediately ask for advice when purchasing a new pair of pants, gauge the reactions to a Tinder match or watch a video on YouTube together. In addition, the app is also used in other ways, such as homework help or technical support.
Squad is therefore similar to the standard screen recording from iOS, but with the addition of friends. As soon as you start broadcasting, they will receive a notification and they can watch immediately. While the recording is in progress, you will see a red bar at the top of your iPhone screen.
Useful for everyone
Furthermore, the app is very simple in design, which is also reminiscent of Snapchat. Central is the ‘pane’ in which you can start a broadcast. You can also add extra people to your group here. Swiping left will take you to your profile, and the rightmost window will show you all your chats.
While Squad is clearly aimed at teens, it is useful for other audiences as well. For example, I used the app to get direct feedback from a friend, who is a graphic designer, while editing a photo. The fact that he can watch my screen directly makes the sharing app work easier than calling or sending screenshots to each other.
Squad is a social app and it depends on how many people will use it. The app is currently in beta, so there will undoubtedly be a lot of work to be done in the near future. However, my first impression is positive.
