WiZ comes with SpaceSense, a new way to automate your lighting using WiFi detection technology and with the new WiZ app V2 with useful functions. All WiZ and Connected by WiZ products are compatible with the WiZ app V2.

Signify is the company behind Philips Hue and also WiZ. The latter is introducing a new app, features and products for its smart lighting system to enhance the users’ everyday convenience. The new WiZ app V2 and the SpaceSense feature will be available from the end of September 2022.

WiZ SpaceSense
The app is being refreshed for the first time since the launch of the WiZ system in 2016. The new app will launch the innovative SpaceSense that, according to Wiz, does not exist anywhere else in the consumer lighting industry. Based on Wi-Fi detection technology, this feature takes your home automation (home automation) to a new level by using Wi-Fi signals already present in the room to detect movement, without the need for special sensors and batteries. Wi-Fi signals are slightly disrupted when people move around a room. By measuring the small deviations in signal strength due to these disturbances, the WiZ lamps can determine if an object is moving in the room. The detection is reciprocal and does not require a line of sight during installation, as is the case with a traditional motion sensor based on passive infrared (PIR) technology. SpaceSense will illuminate your rooms automatically by activating the light when you enter and switching it off when no more movement is detected. The sensitivity of the system can be adjusted, for example to prevent your pets from switching the lights on and off as they run in and out of the room. To use SpaceSense, you need to install at least 2 lamps per room and connect them to the WiZ app V2. Once SpaceSense is set up, you can enjoy the comfort of the smart lighting. Privacy and security
Privacy and security are of the utmost importance with WiZ’s smart lighting system. SpaceSense detects movement due to the disturbance in Wi-Fi waves caused by the movement of the user. It does not detect the exact location of people, nor does it recognize faces. All detection data is processed locally without being sent to the internet or a cloud service. This feature is completely opt-in, so that all WiZ users can decide for themselves whether or not they want to use it. SpaceSense can be enabled for most new products introduced after September 2021 and all Connected by WiZ products – including the WiZ brand, Philips Smart LED and other brands that work on the WiZ connected app.

WiZ App V2
In addition to SpaceSense, the WiZ app V2 is full of other surprises and new features. The new user interface should provide an even more intuitive experience, making everyday life even easier and adapting to your needs. The new WiZ app V2 is designed for greater control and to make actions as simple as possible: fewer taps to reach the desired action, less visual noise and smoother interactions. It reduces simple room control to just one tap. The app gives you an overview of all rooms on the home screen, so you can immediately see which lights are on, their brightness level and the modes used. With a simple swipe of your finger on the room tile, you can adjust the atmosphere to suit your mood, change the brightness or view groups of devices – it’s quick and effortless.

Quick Action and Light Scene Management
The Quick Action feature aims to tailor your lighting to your needs faster and more specifically, allowing you to perform your own personalized quick tasks in the new app. Switch on your bedside lamp for reading, cozy lighting in the dining room for dinner or party lighting when you feel like dancing. You can customize your entire room with just one tap. Furthermore, you can create your own quick tasks targeting multiple lights, as you wish and independently of other users in the house.
The Light Scene Management feature brings your creativity to life by creating a scene for a room. With this new feature, you can take a snapshot of the current state of the room, adjust the light settings to your liking, choose which device to apply to, and name the scene. Then you call up different scenes in the app or with Siri’s voice control and you immediately have a different atmosphere.
