Usually it’s the other way around, but now Telegram is taking over a feature from WhatsApp. These are the temporary photos and videos, better known as Stories. In Telegram you were able to avoid the Stories until now, but that will also end soon.
Telegram Stories will be released next month
Stories are temporary photos and videos. They have become popular through services such as Snapchat and Instagram, but you can now find them everywhere. Even WhatsApp’s Status feature is a modified form of Stories.
One place you’ve been able to avoid Stories so far is in the messaging app Telegram. But you will soon no longer be able to escape it, because the function will be added to the service in July.
Users ask for Stories
The arrival of Stories to Telegram was announced last Monday by Pavel Durov, the CEO of Telegram. In a message on his Telegram channel Durov said that more than half of all user requests are about a Stories feature. ‘At first we were against this, because Stories are already everywhere. But Telegram wouldn’t be Telegram if we didn’t listen to our users,” said Durov.
This is how Telegram Stories work
With Stories on Telegram, you decide who can see your stories. You can make them visible to everyone, your contacts, a few selected contacts, or a list of close friends. Stories are placed at the top of your chat list and you have the option to hide them.
You can add captions and links to your Stories and tag people. You decide when your Story ends. This can be done after 6, 12, 24 or 48 hours. But it is also possible to permanently display a Story on your profile page, in a similar way to Instagram with a Story highlight.
Telegram Stories are in final testing phase and will be available in early July. Durov believes the feature will “start a new era on Telegram” and make the platform even more social than it already is.
