It’s been rumored since November 2020 (!) but now it’s finally here: you can now share songs from YouTube Music via Snapchat. This was already possible on iPhones since October 2021, but now Android is also participating. That is how it works.
YouTube Music
It is very handy that you can now share music from YouTube Music via Snapchat, because that makes it just that little bit easier to share, for example, our Eurovision entry from S10. The disadvantage is that you do not share video clips, only the artwork, the name of the artist, the logo of the app and a link with which others can listen. In short, it’s not the best way to share and discuss that crazy new clip of Ye with your friends.
You can use the Snapchat feature within YouTube Music by going to the share screen within the YouTube Music app and tapping Snapchat. The app then sends what you’re currently listening to to Snapchat. Within Snapchat, you can then either choose to share it with specific friends or within the ‘My Story’ section. It’s all quite simple and actually works exactly like it works, for example, to share your running training from Running with Evy on Instagram. (Screenshot courtesy of 9to5Google†
Snapchat and Instagram
In fact, this YouTube Music option should also buy to Instagram. However, this does not seem to work yet, because then a crash follows, which unfortunately is also a more common problem if you want to share things from other apps via Instagram. If you do want to try it out, make sure you have downloaded and installed the most recent updates from YouTube Music as well as Instagram and Snapchat.
Last summer we wrote that the YouTube Music app for in the car was completely renewed. Although YouTube Music has to compete with Spotify for example, it seems to have 50 million subscribers (at least in September 2021). The added benefit of the subscription is that you can watch YouTube videos without ads, which is an increasing thorn in the side for new paying YouTube users.
