You can turn off these annoying features on your Samsung phone

Samsung makes great phones, but the software could be better. Voice assistant Bixby doesn’t work nearly as well as Siri or Google Assistant, and Samsung’s own apps, including Samsung Internet and the Galaxy Store, aren’t exactly a good alternative to Chrome and the Play Store. Fortunately, you don’t have to use Samsung’s software: you can disable many apps or functions.

Customize navigation bar

The navigation bar on a Samsung phone consists of three buttons, the Recent, Home and Back buttons respectively. Samsung is the only one androidmanufacturer who has put the Back button on the far right of the navigation bar and that doesn’t feel equally familiar to everyone. Many prefer to see this button, with the arrow pointing to the left, actually left in the navigation bar.

Fortunately, you can adjust this. Go to the Settings app and then to Navigation bar in the menu Display. Bee button order you can customize the navigation bar to your liking.

You can easily adjust the button order of the navigation bar.

Disable Bixby Button

Samsung has given Bixby a prominent place on its phones. You can call up the voice assistant by pressing and holding the physical button on the side of your device. You probably don’t want that for several reasons. First, Bixby doesn’t belong under the side button. You want to turn off your device with the side button. And second, there’s a good chance you’ll accidentally turn on the voice assistant when you want to turn your phone’s volume up or down, because the volume buttons are located directly below the side button.

Background apps in saver mode

Of course, nobody wants an empty battery, but phone manufacturers sometimes go very far to save the battery. For example, background apps are automatically closed from Wi-Fi and mobile data when you switch on the power save mode of your Samsung phone. As a result, you may miss notifications and apps may not work properly.

It is probably not desirable to automatically close background apps. Go to Apps and notifications in the Settings app and choose the app that you want to run in the background. Choose Show advanced options and go to Battery. In the subsequent screen, press Do not optimize.

Clean up quick settings

The quick settings menu can be quite cluttered, so it’s worth cleaning up the menu a bit. You get to the quick settings by swiping from top to bottom twice. Tap the three vertical dots and select Layout Quick panel.

Here you can make some adjustments, for example to the location of your brightness switch. You can also choose to use the buttons Devices/Media cannot be displayed, which makes the quick settings on your phone a lot clearer.
