There’s something iPhone owners have been doing wrong on the iPhone for years. We will tell you what it is and why it is not necessary at all.
You’ve been doing this wrong on your iPhone for years
On an iPhone with Face ID, you can close an app by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. The ‘app selector’ will then appear on the screen. Here you can swipe the apps ‘off the screen’ of your iPhone to close them.
Many iPhone owners close (all) apps as often as possible to free up the iPhone’s working memory or ‘make it faster again’. That was sometimes necessary with old smartphones. But nowadays this is no longer necessary and it is a persistent mistake that many iPhone owners still make.
In fact, Apple even advises against doing it. By closing an app, you have to completely reload it the next time, which of course also puts more demands on your battery. In addition, it also takes longer before an app is started again.
For that reason, there is no option on the iPhone to close all apps at the same time. The only way to close all apps is to wipe them all away. It’s funny that you can do it with multiple apps at the same time, for example by swiping two apps off the screen at the same time.
Restarting your iPhone does erase the apps from memory, but when you open the app switcher you will see that the apps are still there. These apps will then have to be reloaded.
Sometimes closing apps is useful
There are of course times when you have to close an app manually. If an app hangs or only shows a black screen, for example, it is better to close it manually.
Some apps can also demand a lot from your iPhone battery due to a bug or an error in the background. You better close it for now. You can track down these culprits by opening the ‘Settings’. Then scroll down and tap ‘Battery’. Then choose ‘Show activity’. Here you can see exactly how much an app consumes actively and in the background.
