Apple Releases iOS 18
It’s time to update your iPhone again, because Apple has released iOS 18. With the new software version, many new features come to your iPhone. For example, it is possible to customize the home screen and Control Panel. You decide where to place apps on the home screen and which controls you add to the Control Panel. Now it turns out that your iPhone also has a new function in iOS 18 when the battery is empty.
After installing iOS 18, the time will remain visible on your iPhone, even if the battery is empty. You will no longer only see the empty battery symbol, but also the clock at the top left of the screen. This was not the case with iOS 17 and earlier, where the display was almost completely black. From iOS 18 onwards, you will always know what time it is, even if your iPhone cannot be charged on the go. You do not need to adjust anything in the settings for this, the feature is automatically enabled.
iPhone with empty battery can do more and more
It’s a small new feature in iOS 18, but your iPhone can do more and more when the battery is empty. In iOS 15, Apple added a similar feature, because since that update, the location of your iPhone always remains visible in the Find My app. Even if your iPhone is without power, you can look up its location in the app. That’s very handy, because the location remains visible even when the iPhone is turned off.
This way you can also see where your iPhone is when it has been deliberately switched off, for example after it has been stolen. This text is also visible when the iPhone’s battery is empty. Incidentally, this is not the first time that Apple has made it possible to view the time when the device is empty. Apple previously added the function to the Apple Watch, so that the time always remains visible on the smartwatch.
More about iOS 18
It is expected that more functions will continue to function in the future, even when the iPhone has an empty battery. With iOS 18, Apple is making many more changes, such as iMessage getting new functions and the photo library has a new layout. And that is not all, because a Passwords app is being introduced, Apple Maps is getting new features and Siri is getting much smarter.
Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a while for the latter, because Apple Intelligence won’t be released until much later. The new technology will be coming to your iPhone with iOS 18.1 (or later), but is not yet available in Dutch.
