YouTube is expanding. The video platform now offers more opportunities for makers to earn money. Education will also take center stage, with special playlists on math, music and more. By contrast, there is no room for online bullying.
YouTube in 2019: 3 changes in a row
That, and more, the company announced at VidCon, a conference for creators. These are the main changes.
1. More subscriptions
First, it will be easier for creators to earn money with their videos. Just like Netflix, for example, YouTube introduces different types of subscriptions, giving you as a viewer exclusive videos and live streams. You will also receive a special badge next to your name.

The cheapest option costs 4.99 euros per month, while the most extensive subscription is five times as expensive. The more you pay, the more exclusive content you get. YouTube also announces so-called Super Stickers, animated images that viewers can purchase during a live stream.
2. YouTube as a teacher
In addition, YouTube will get special education playlists. These are divided into chapters, where you are schooled in a topic from start to finish. Currently, only select creators can upload these types of videos, such as CrashCourse.
The education playlists don’t show recommended videos, keeping students focused while learning. The playlist is also clearly divided per part of the teaching material, and the description often indicates where in the video which topic is discussed.
3. No understanding of bullying
After Instagram previously announced an anti-bullying policy, YouTube also wants to work on this. It is not yet entirely clear what this will look like. The company did speak out loudly at the conference about online bullying.
Good behavior will in any case be better rewarded in the future. YouTube Giving is being expanded. Thanks to this program, people can automatically support charities on the video platform through donations. For now, the program only works in the United States.
