Zero recalls 2020 SR/F over rotor bolts

Zero Motorcycles has rolled out a recall for the 2020 SR/F. The rotor bolts may have been tightened with insufficient torque and could therefore vibrate loose. In a worst-case scenario, the bolts could damage the swingarm.

Zero recalls 2020 SR/F over rotor bolts

In late 2019, Zero Motorcycles was informed of an incident involving the rotor bolts on three 2020 SR/F demo models in Europe, in which damage was caused by the bolts vibrating loose from the rotor.

In response to the report, Zero Motorcycles launched an investigation into the bolts used, the manufacturing process and the torque value of the bolts.

That examination revealed that all bolts had been Loctite and had been tightened to the specified torque of 13.5 Nm (10 ft-lb). Zero concluded that the torque had been too low and increased the value to 35.25 Nm (26 ft-lb). The tightening torque adjustment was implemented in the production process on December 19, 2020.

On January 20, 2020, Zero Motorcycles initiated a service campaign and notified dealers and owners about the adjusted tightening torque. From that moment on, Zero has continued the service campaign continuously and there has only been one additional report from the field.

Because it cannot be stated with 100% certainty that all SR/F models now have the correct tightening torque on the rotor bolts, Zero Motorcycles has chosen to roll out a recall for the 2020 SR/F that is available before December 19, 2019. has been produced.

The dealer will check whether the bolts have been tightened with the correct torque and if necessary replace the bolts with new bolts. Owners of affected engines are advised by Zero to check the bolts regularly every 4,000 miles / 6,000 km or every 6 months as described in the service book.
