Buick Envista: toned down in every way

Buick has pulled the curtain on an all-new SUV-like one. Meet the Buick Envista, a newcomer that, unlike the concept car that preceded it, has no electric powertrain at all.

Buick hasn’t been active in Europe since the 1990s, but it never left the United States. Buick is not only active in its home country, the General Motors brand is also indispensable in China. It even offers a whole range of models that it has developed especially for the Chinese market, including a couple of electric models, a motley collection of sedans and even a huge MPV family. Now Buick comes especially for the Chinese market with a new SUV-like: the Envista.

Buick Electra-X

The Buick Electra-X Concept looks completely different, especially at the rear.

The Envista is the production version of the Electra-X, a study model that was presented in June. The Electra-X had an electric powertrain that was topped with a completely new design language for Buick that will eventually find its way to almost all future Chinese Buicks. Shortly after the presentation of the Electra-X, AutoWeek was able to show you the first official photos of the production model and now Buick has launched it itself.

Unlike the Electra-X, the Envista has no electric powertrain at all. The SUV simply gets a 1.5-liter blown four-cylinder petrol engine that is linked to a CVT transmission. The 1.5 delivers 184 hp and is therefore powerful enough to help the Envista reach a speed of 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. What is also striking: the appearance. Seen from the front, the similarities with the Electra-X are evident, although Buick has given the Evista a completely different buttock.

Buick Envista

Buick Envista: Much less exciting inside than the Electra-X.

The Envista is 4.64 meters long, 1.82 meters wide and 1.57 meters high. The wheelbase is 2.7 meters. Not much is left of the interior of the concept car Electra-X. We see a relatively conventional interior with a 10.25-inch infotainment screen and digital instruments. The Envista will cost at least €21,640 in China converted.
