Dacia celebrates milestone: two million Dusters sold

At Dacia, the champagne bottle can be opened. The budget brand of Renault says that it has sold two million copies of the Duster since the introduction of the model in 2010. For all these customers, price appears to have been the most decisive factor.

The Duster is now an established model in Dacia’s range. The compact SUV was launched in 2010 and received its first facelift in 2014. Dacia introduced an all-new generation Duster in 2018, which was refreshed halfway through last year. Over the years, the Duster got more and more ‘luxury’ on board. For example, with the latest facelift, the Duster got LED daytime running lights and LED turn signals. The taillights also received an LED treatment. In the interior, the Duster received an 8-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system and a ‘4×4 Monitor’, software that displays the car’s angle of inclination and includes a compass and altimeter.

Although the Duster with a starting price of €19,950 still has a relatively reasonable price for the car it is, the starting price has increased over the years. In 2010 you paid €16,290 for a Duster with 105 hp 1.6 four-cylinder engine. To date, Dacia has sold 12,177 copies of the Duster in the Netherlands, putting the model behind the Logan (20,585 cars) and Sandero (19,415 cars). The Duster sold well here, especially in its early years. In 2010, the compact SUV rolled out of the showroom 1,516 times, 2011 was the record year for the model with 2,137 Dusters. In the years that followed, the Dutch sales of the Duster fluctuated on average around 1,000 copies per year. Last year, 1,028 new Dusters were registered.

Nice sitting.

Dacia also reports some nice statistics about the customers of the Duster. According to Dacia, 56 percent of Duster buyers from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain and Italy say they mainly buy it for its price. For 20 percent of the customers, the design is the decisive factor, 16 percent of the customers buy the Duster mainly from the point of view of reliability. In addition, 44 percent of Duster buyers from those countries live in rural areas, only 10 percent of customers live in a medium or large city. In France, the Duster is the most popular with 454,707 units sold, followed by Italy (258,102 units), Germany (210,776 units), Turkey (152,406 units) and Spain (124,271 units). Added together, these countries account for more than half of the Duster’s sales total.

In any case, Dacia does not stop at the Duster, because the brand is working on an SUV that will be one step higher: the Bigster. In addition, the brand will eventually use Renault’s E-Tech hybrid technology. So enough to look forward to.
